So I’ve kind of made it a rule to say yes to a show anytime someone asks me. Usually someone will ask me if I want to go, I listen to a couple songs, if I can dig it even a little and my schedule allows it I’ll almost always say yes. Well this certainly worked in my favor last Monday night. The show was at The Fillmore in San Francisco which is one of my favorite venues. Venue also plays a big part on me saying yes, especially if its one I’ve been trying to go to.
Anyways the headliner was Judah and the Lion who I saw open for Kaleo last year and wanted to see what they’d bring this year as the headliners themselves. Well Colony House opened for them and the show peaked for me when they were on stage. I love when a show starts so strong, you just know it’s going to be a good night and are reassured the 40 bucks you spent was well worth it. The lead singer of Colony House simply said they wanted to try something with this song “Moving Forward” and that this was going to be a one time thing, even if he played it a million more times, it’ll never be the same as tonight. I absolutely love this. This is the reason I go to shows, the reason I love live music. So he played the song and it was beautiful and so relatable to my life right now. “I found life that gave me reason, to live” Is one of the lines of the song and it just hits you. Its a simple song melodically, but beautiful, meaningful lyrics which are my favorite types of songs, at least the ones that stick with you. Another one they performed was “You Know It” which funny enough is a song written while they were driving to San Francisco from Nashville. It is upbeat and clean song with a catchy chorus. It takes you back to the glory days of rock and roll.
Once I had time I was able to listen to their record and found “This Beautiful Life” which gives me all the feels like Moving Forward does, yet a little deeper. There are wonderful harmonies by the band and it hits all the right places emotionally. Again a simple, yet very powerful song that I haven’t been able to get out of my head since listening to.
So needless to say, go to shows even if you’ve never heard of the band or artist playing. Immerse yourself in art. You just never know what you’ll stumble upon.
